Water contains numerous organisms. Surface or ground water, salt or fresh water, drinking water or non-potable water, all these water types are more or less vitalized. Depending on their nature the existence of micro-organisms in water is desired or undesired. On the one hand, they can purify water and reduce pollutants; on the other hand, they can germinate water-containing systems and affect these by sedimentation and corrosion or even destroy them. This represents the danger that infectious diseases are caused through drinking tap water. Elderly and weak persons as well as children are even more affected by germination of water.
By means of chemical and physical disinfectant procedures micro-organisms are removed from the water. Depending on the kind of contamination, water condition and existing materials the suitable procedure provides for reduction of the germ load in e.g. air-conditioning systems and swimming pools and keeping it on a level that is not considered to be a hazard to human health.
