Water - a scarce resource

On earth water seems to be available in abundance. More than two thirds of the earth's surface is covered with water. About 97 % of the water supplies on earth are salt water. A considerable part of the freshwater resources is stored in glaciers, ice caps and snow so that much less than one percent of the water supplies are natural water resources that can be used as drinking water. Against this background the supply of every human being with clean water represents a challenge.

Water is an elixir of life as well as our most important food. A healthy adult every day needs about 2.5 litres of liquid, in order to feel well and to make all body functions work well. About 130 litres water are consumed by each German person every day - among others for body care, cooking and washing. Agriculture, commerce and industry day by day need process water for production. Many people are not aware of the fact: In all foodstuff and industrial products water is contained, which is needed for production. For one cup of coffee this amounts to e.g. 140 litres, for one Jeans even 5,400 litres and for the production of a passenger car to unbelievable 450,000 litres. During the past 100 years water consumption has increased by the six fold and will redouble until the year 2050.

This is why BWT has been working at innovative solutions for the treatment of the water available worldwide every day. Nearly everywhere, where water comes across:

  • drinking water

  • mineral water

  • ultrapure water for the pharmaceutical industry

  • swimming pool water

  • heating water

  • process water

  • boiler and cooling water

  • water in air-conditioning systems

For technological lead in all areas of water treatment staff members in the BWT-innovation centres research, develop and optimise processes, which are used worldwide for the achievement of excellent water quality.

Best water quality for final customers

Thousands of service staff members, plumbers, planners, architects and hygiene experts form the BWT water partner network. Whether at the Point of Entry (PoE) of the domestic water pipe or at the Point of Use (PoU) of water, BWT-products have proved in a million of applications. With its products for water treatment at the PoE BWT has made a name for itself among house owners and builders. The new table-top water filters for tap water as well as tea and coffee preparation among others care for the fact that the company also in the area of Point of Use applications attracts the target group of private households. A wide-ranging communication campaign is intended to introduce these innovative products for perfect water quality to the consumers.

Responsibility for the environment

The staff members in research and development have been working with most modern methods at new processes and materials with the objective, to develop ecological and at the same time economic products. An important aspect of further and new development is the reduction of the energy consumption of products and thus the minimisation of CO2 emissions. Ecological, economic and social responsibility as well as the use of most modern technology and permanent further product development makes a considerable contribution to the growth of the company.
